The CLUB was delighted to welcome the GUI under 16 Strokeplay team championship on Thursday 10th August. 15 teams from all over Connacht competed in the event with Ballina on a total of 277 coming out as winners by one shot from Co. Sligo. Athenry Golf Club finished third. Michael Evans of the Connacht Branch of the Golfing Union of Ireland before presenting the trophies to the winning teams, thanked Hugh O’Neill (PGA) for sponsoring the event. He thanked Mountbellew Golf Club for the wonderful welcome shown to all of the participants, parents, conveners and GUI officials He also congratulated the club on the great condition of the course which proved to be a tough test for all involved, Eoin Prendergast from Claremorris (6) returned 73 which was the best gross score on the day. The best nett came from Jack Corley (Ballina) who had 66 nett while Luke Cunningham (Mountbellew), Aodan Brady (Co. Sligo), James Byrne (Ballina), Jonathon Flynn (Cregmore), Kelvin Langan (Athenry) all had 67 nett. Special praise was also given to Jimmy Screene and Becki Gavin for the wonerful catering provided for all who attended the club on Thursday.

Our club wishes the 3 Ladies Teams from MOUNTBELLEW the very best of luck in the forthcoming ILGU Connacht Finals to be held in Ballinrobe GOLF CLUB on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September next.

The Men’s 18 Holes Stroke competition was won by: Darren Finn (15) 65nett, 2nd: Peter Donnellan (10) 66, Gross: Keith Higgins (5) 75, 3rd: Cathal Ryan (13) 66, 4th: Luke Cunningham (8) 67 (on back 9). Congratulations to Fr. Sean Cunningham who achieved a hole in one at the par 3, 119 yards, 5th hole.

The Ladies 18 Holes Stableford competition was won by: Patricia Burke 39pts, Mary Dolan 39pts, Gross: Laura Burke 24pts, 3rd: Evelyn Clarke 36pts.
